Recently, Fudan University, a prominent academic institution in China, introduced a groundbreaking calcium-oxygen (Ca-O2) battery, generating significant interest within the energy sector. This new kind of battery is thought to be at the forefront of the development of future energy storage technologies due to its large energy density, environmental and economical features.

By converting oxygen to calcium oxide compounds (CaOx), calcium-oxygen (Ca-O2) batteries have the potential to attain high capacity while maintaining their low cost. A significant portion of battery technology progress has been made possible by the Fudan University research team's successful realization of Ca-O2 batteries with stable charging and discharging at room temperature while attempting to overcome the issue of electrolyte accommodation.

This kind of battery mainly consists of three parts: metallic Ca anode, CNT air cathode, and organic electrolyte. Through the researchers' unremitting efforts, the battery can be charged up to 700 times at room temperature, and has many advantages such as low cost, high safety and high capacity.

Furthermore, the next generation of textile batteries for wearable systems can be created using calcium-oxygen batteries. These batteries can also be woven into flexible fibers and utilized to fuel the creation of smart accessories, apparel, and other industries that need a boost.

With ongoing technological progress and expanding application possibilities, calcium-oxygen batteries are poised to emerge as a pivotal technology for future energy storage, contributing significantly to the establishment of a clean and efficient energy ecosystem.
